After wandering around downtown Chicago taking in the sights and getting on your way… eventually you will wind up south of Joliet, Illinois. There is one good place to fill up your gas tank, as well as your stomach. Although it’s not exactly a mom & pop business, Route 66 Food n Fuel is one of my favorite places to get a seriously good Italian beef sandwich. Located at 2401 South Chicago St, you can get your hands on one of the best sandwiches that will tickle your tastebuds. I have personally stopped in there more than a few times just for that. For around $14, you will get a 6 inch Italian beef sandwich, a mountain of fries, and a medium drink. The sandwich comes with your choice of mild or spicy peppers. Fair warning…. you will probably need a knife and fork to get through this bad boy. It’s definitely worth it. Pop’s 66 (not to be confused with a different place in Arcadia, Oklahoma), is worth every penny you spend. You won’t find much in the way of Route 66 goodies, but it’s by far one damn good place for lunch. By the way, you will also find the original Bluesmobile there.
You will find it at 2401 S Chicago St, Joliet, Illinois. (Illinois 53 at Laraway Road).
