Route 66 is about as American as you can get, and this year celebrates both. 2026 brings us two big celebrations: America’s 250th birthday, and the centennial celebration of Route 66. 100 years ago, Route 66 was commissioned, and gave birth to road travel. Motels and gas stations had already started popping up before then, but soon exploded when the Mother Road started coming together.
According to Route 66 News , the official celebration kicks off starting April 30th in Springfield, Missouri, and runs through May 3rd. Scheduled guest appearances include John Goodman, as well as the local band Ozark Mountain Daredevils. There will also be other events and activities taking place. Other cities and towns along Route 66 will more than likely have their own celebrations.
